This year, the Marionettes Chorale celebrates 45 years since its first award-winning public performance.
The choir debuted in 1964, directed by Jocelyn Pierre and June Williams-Thorne, and distinguished itself on the local Music Festival Stage before excelling in international competitions and tours.
Directed by conductor Gretta Taylor, Susan Dore and Joanne Mendes since 1974 – who celebrate 35 years at the helm this year – the choir has been sponsored by bptt since 1972, and was incorporated as a nonprofit in 2005. The Youth Chorale was formed in 1995, and join with their adult counterparts to bring an exceptional production to their supporters and all music lovers this July.
With a singing cast of over 150, plus a full orchestra of steel pan, strings, percussion, brass and woodwinds, the Marionettes deliver another stellar programme, including:
• operatic classics (Borodin’s “Prince Igor”, Verdi’s “Nabucco”, and Rossini’s “William Tell” – like you’ve never heard it before!)
• treasured African-American spirituals
• evergreen hits from the 60s (the decade that gave birth to the Marionettes)
• popular musicals “Sister Act” and “Wicked”
• regional favourites from the Mighty Sparrow, Lord Blakie and more
• and the unforgettable “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff
This is a concert not to miss! Come celebrate 45 years of musical excellence with us!
